About Me

My name is Anwar M. Farooq, and I am originally from Karachi, Pakistan.

I graduated from Karachi University with a BSc. (Honors) in Mathematics in 1972. One year later, I immigrated to the United States. I attended the University of Texas at Arlington, and Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas, before moving on to the city of New Orleans where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Orleans in 1984. Within months of graduating, I moved to Pomona, California, where I worked as an engineer in different companies, including Telecom Technologies, Inc. and Western Digital Corp.

Recreationally, I have made four static-line parachute jumps from an airplane. I love to travel and I have visited many countries in Europe and Southeast Asia, from Denmark, Germany and England to Hong Kong, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam and surrounding countries. In addition, I have been to 30 out of the 50 states in America. After 12 years as an engineer, I moved into a teaching career and taught at Riverside Community College and Pomona Adult School. Later, I taught math and science at various middle schools in the Los Angeles Unified School district.

After teaching high school mathematics in Los Angeles, CA for 15 years, I retired in 2019. Presently, I teach STEM classes at local schools in Southern California. I can be reached by email at the following address: anwar.farooq@gmail.com
